Sounds interesting. Does any of the code exist outside of the CMS framework? If so, how tightly is it coupled to ROOT?

It does not yet exist outside CMS. That's the AIM of the Vertigo project - to rip the code out of CMS. Root dependency is zero.

I shall present aims and status of the VERTIGO project at LCWS'04 next week in Paris (Simulation session, Tue 20 April). You may find a copy of my draft presentation file at

A short summary of the VERTIGO project is included in the Proceedings of LCWS'04 (Paris). A preprint can be found in the LC Notes Repository
at "http://www-flc.desy.de/lcnotes/notes/LC-TOOL-2004-017.pdf".

VERTIGO was also presented as a poster at CHEP'04 (Interlaken, CH). A longer summary will appear in the Proceedings. The preprint can be downloaded from " http://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access?contribId=31&ses sionId=24&resId=1&materialId=paper&confId=0".

An updated and extended presentation of the VERTIGO project was given at the Rutherford Lab on 6 Sept 2004. My slides are available at
" http://wwwhephy.oeaw.ac.at/u3w/m/mitaroff/www/LC_WS/6thTalk. pdf".

Best wishes for a Happy New Year 2005 !
Cheers, Winfried
