I think this is not a good idea, but maybe I don't understand the proposed solution correctly...

As I understand it, the following problem occurs:
In the case of non zero suppressed data you end up with a mixed collection of data vectors that are and are not pedestal subtracted... IMHO not a good idea. In addition, you can have ADC data vectors which include pulses that are in overflow and pulses that are not. So with this technique you will also affect the pulses which aren't.
